China Agricultural Machinery Distribution Association Conducts Research on Mechanization of Cash Crop Production in Weihai

From August 20 to 21, a 5-member delegation led by Fan Jianhua, President of China Agricultural Machinery Distribution Association, Chen Tao, Vice President and Secretary-General, Yuan Tongbao, Deputy Secretary-General, Ma Zheng, Director of the Media Department, and Ji Jie, Deputy Director of the Industry Department, visited Weihai City, Shandong Province to investigate the development and mechanized production of traditional Chinese medicinal materials and apple industries. Meng Yanling, Deputy Director of Weihai Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Tang Huayun, Director of Weihai Agricultural Machinery Development Center, and other relevant officials accompanied the delegation, and relevant government leaders and industry experts participated in the symposium and research activities.

Wendeng District has a planting area of approximately 55,000 mu of American ginseng, with its annual fresh ginseng output accounting for nearly 70% of the national total. It has become China's most important American ginseng production base, known as the "Hometown of Chinese American Ginseng". At the end of 2021, "Wendeng American Ginseng" was selected as a national key cultivation project of the Geographical Indication Utilization and Promotion Project, becoming the only project in Weihai included in the list. In April this year, it was among the first batch of only 7 provincial-level geographical indication product protection demonstration zones in Shandong Province. These remarkable achievements stem from Wendeng District's in-depth implementation of the "standardization +" strategy and exploration of an industrial development approach integrating "standardization + geographical indication + brand building". At present, the construction of the National American Ginseng Agricultural Standardization Regional Service and Promotion Platform has been launched, with basic infrastructure basically completed and entering a key development stage. While mechanization in ploughing, field management, harvesting, primary processing and other production and processing links is relatively well-established, there is still a need to further accelerate the integrated development of agricultural machinery and agronomy throughout the entire production process.

Weihai Huamanyuan Agricultural Technology Development Co., Ltd. has built a high-standard high-density apple orchard with dwarf rootstocks in accordance with European modern, automated and mechanized orchard standards, adopting an automatic integrated water and fertilizer irrigation system and an efficient, precise, economical and labor-saving management model. Some orchards achieved a yield of over 1,000 jin per mu in the year of planting, and precise cultivation has maintained a stable high yield of 8,000 to 10,000 jin per mu for apples. The company's person in charge stated that most of its employees are college graduates, and it also attracts summer interns. The company aims to redefine agricultural practitioners, enhance professional recognition and income for farmers, produce high-yield and high-quality products through modern agricultural technologies, enable employees to work with peace of mind and joy as new-type farmers, and contribute to rural revitalization.

Weihai Xinyuan Fruit Industry Service Co., Ltd. engages in the planting and technical promotion of modern dwarf self-rooted rootstock fruit trees, R&D and production of agricultural plant protection machinery, development and production of orchard facilities such as prestressed concrete columns, installation and technical guidance of orchard protection systems, and consulting services for nutritional diagnosis and soil management of modern orchards. At the company's planting demonstration base, the trellis system of dwarf orchards adopts its independently developed prestressed concrete columns, together with supporting components of various orchard protection systems, including concrete column fixing caps, fasteners, anti-settling plates, fruit tree fixing clamps, etc., which are compatible with the concrete columns. A multi-functional protective net is also installed to prevent hail, birds, diseases and pests, wind and sunscald, ensuring the safe production of orchards. This model has been successfully replicated in Qujing, Yunnan and Qianyang, Shaanxi, providing surrounding areas with one-stop technical support covering orchard planting techniques, protection system construction, orchard mechanized operations, and orchard nutrition testing, realizing the industrialization, large-scale, standardized and industrialized development of apple planting.

Weihai ZY Modern Agricultural Equipment Technology Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive enterprise integrating scientific research, development, production, sales and import and export trade of modern agricultural equipment. Cui Qiang, General Manager of the company, has appeared on the Inventions I Love program of CCTV-17 Agricultural and Rural Channel with a number of independently developed orchard-related machines. Cui Qiang introduced the company's opportunities in serving the development of modern fruit industry, the R&D progress of products such as fertilizer applicators, pruning machines, root cutting machines and operating platforms, as well as the import and export trade of modern orchard machinery. He also elaborated on a series of achievements the company has made in participating in the China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition and on-site agricultural machinery demonstrations in recent years.

President Fan Jianhua and his delegation fully affirmed the high-quality development achievements of Weihai's agriculture. Fan Jianhua pointed out that Weihai has made outstanding achievements in orchard mechanization, manufacturing and circulation of special agricultural machinery, and innovation of agricultural social service models. In particular, the development model of the modern apple industry has realized efficient division of labor and collaboration in all links, which is worthy of promotion and reference. The association will continue to give play to its platform advantages and bridging role, actively expand cooperation with Weihai's agricultural and agricultural machinery departments in the mechanized production of characteristic industries such as apples, American ginseng, tea and figs, further promote the substitution of machinery for labor through special on-site agricultural machinery exhibitions, conferences and forums, boost industrial upgrading, and support rural revitalization.
